Independent Happiness: How To Deal With Being Lonely
It's the holiday season. People are having the time of their lives. But for the lonely souls, it is nothing short of a torment.
For the rest of the year, it is easier to find distractions. However, during this period, the all too familiar pain returns.
To have the company of a loved one, to cry tears of joy, to feel the warmth. I wish a virtual hug would suffice to provide solace to the despaired. But I believe I'll have to offer something more helpful.

Firstly ask yourself what we need friends for. Some of the possible answers would include; to share feelings, to laugh, for support, for validation, etc.
You could always set finding new friends as a long-term goal. But for now, you need to be self-sufficient.
Turn your loneliness into solitude. And believe me, that happens in the blink of an eye. It takes one brief moment of firm resolve to change everything.
Let's see how. Instead of looking at people enjoying their company, spend your time online trying to communicate with someone in a worse-off situation.
Talk about stuff that would make both of you feel better, not worse. Be there for others, and let them be there for you.
Find comic content and laugh your heart out. Meditate. Seek advice from experts around the world. Ask questions to random strangers.
Do you know what you're doing? You're taking your happiness into your own capable hands.
Regardless of the outcome, this will help you feel empowered. And believe me, there is no stopping you once you are introduced to that kind of empowerment.
The thing is, you could use the internet to feel lonely or for companionship. For happiness or despair. To bring helplessness or empowerment. Peace or anxiety.
With millions of users worldwide, just for a moment, imagine the number of friends, the level of happiness, and the extent of empowerment here.
The kind of peace you could enjoy. Now, tell me, would you want to remain lonely when happiness is right in your hands?
Remember, loneliness does not have to be synonymous with sadness. If we combine all the lonely people worldwide, the word itself becomes irrelevant.
